VERB!

Just launched! Our first revolution on VERB. For all you in the know - VERB is the latest extension of everyone's favorite Barber and Shiner Bock dispensary, Birds.

Given the name VERB, we knew we couldn't have just a simple still image for the home page. LewisCarnegie worked with video on the homepage: a slow loop of a moving still brought a real depth to the homepage. We're having fun and appreciate the chance to work with everyone on the VERB team.

The MIGHTY Aaron Draplin will descend upon our great city and bring a show only worthy enough to be shown in the Grandest state of the USA— TEXAS. PLUS we setup our 8 color screen print press with 8+ designs created by Aaron. here is the fun part, you come out and make s...ome art you can wear home. Make some shirts....purchase a blank shirt for $20 (or BYOS for $10), choose your layout with as many designs as you like to create our own one-of-a-kind shirt. In association with the Creative Workers Union, Lewis Carnegie is happy to have Aaron James Draplin of Draplin Design Co. will be showing his work and telling us his tale, the tale of a midwest kid who goes into a "two men enter - one man leaves" battle with the design world for all that is moral and just. This tail includes freedom, graphic arts, independence, fonts, things that are orange, weiner dogs and whatever else pops into his thinker on the big night.

Not only will you leave with stories ...to tell your grandchildren, but you'll have a chance to grab some great DDC merch. Now's your chance to shake hands with Dale Dixon as he shows you around the merch table to find that perfect DDC item for your home or workspace.

What are you doing Friday night?

We know. There is tons of things going on this time of year - but if you are looking for a real treat, Bell & Bird is having their opening at 26 Doors between 7-10. Their sense and appreciation of jewelry has opened our eyes. Pretty amazing stuff.

We love us some Bryker Woods.

We love the small little hood of Bryker Woods. It's tucked between Pemberton, Ramsey and Central Market. It's so close to downtown, yet far out enough that residents can get lost finding fossil treasures along Shoal Creek. There is also a great mix of neighbors – some of which have been here forever as well as many young families. Problem is, Bryker Woods lacks image presence. So we volunteered to brand the hood. We done enough identities for new developments, why not one for a 120 year old development? Our goal is to bring neighbors together with an identity that respects Bryker Woods the history without being all fuddy-duddy. We're just starting to have fun with this one, but the application will be bold and kinetic.

Artist Cindy Hickok

We recently completed fiber artist Cindy Hickok's "Tongue and Cheek" book featuring her gorgeous embroidery. Using her sewing machine, Cindy draws using a vibrant color palette of thread. The results are her humorous takes on life and famous works of art – embroidered with astounding detail onto water soluble fabric. Artwork titles are a guarantee chuckle. The book will be sold during her traveling gallery show across Europe and in museum stores.

The new Marc Burckhardt book is hot off the presses. Every other year we get together with Marc and have some fun putting together a small book of current work he can use to send to clients and friends. Who is Lewis Carnegie?

We get that alot. People who don't know that Lewis Carnegie is just a combination of our last names usually call asking for "Lewis". Up to this point we haven't had a clever response for them. But all that has changed thanks to Mark Todd.

Mark is an illustrator we met through another buddy last year in Maine. He has been living in New York putting together these great little xeroxed zeens that he would illustrate and bind together. His sense of image, type and humor always made us laugh. Now he has put together something for us in the same spirit. Its fun and we couldn't more thrilled.

The books have been screened and bound. If you would like one, we would love to send you a copy. Hopefully every year we'll be able to re-define and continue to answer the question – "Who is Lewis Carnegie?"

Remember the last time things went economically south? Lewis Carnegie was updating our website last night looking for missed nuggets to post and I came across this video we produced for the local Austin Advertising Awards. Along with talented laid off/freelancing buddies: Jason Brantly, Amy Sullivan, Rip Tear Shread, Ken Lewin and Synthetic Pictures, we jumped right in to the current economic crisis and turned it into a opportunity to reach our core audience. These short clips were played on both sides of award winners throughout the show and allowed everyone a chance to laugh and make light of the struggle we were all enduring. Its about 8 years old now - and some actors cast are now really getting pretty famous... can you find them?
