Tell Me Everything: The Art of the Interview 

Wednesday, March 12, 12:00pm–4:00pm 

In this workshop, co-presented by Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls and Austin Bat Cave, students will learn interviewing tips and techniques that they’ll put into practice in a super-fun SXSW music showcase! The workshop will focus on interview essentials such as doing your interview homework, setting interview goals, and balancing fun conversation with getting the job done. After the workshop, several girls will be chosen (based on interest and performance) to interview the bands playing at Wednesday’s SXSW showcase, “Smart Girls at the Bat Cave.”

ABC's teaching an interview workshop to Amy Poehler's Smart Girls before the event. During it, the smart girls will be utilizing those skills learned, and interviewing bands after they play. Any donations collected will benefit ABC's free writing programs for kids. Let's showcase some smart girls!!!

Scott Newton at the Studio! Saturday at 2!

Scott Newton (Scott Newton Photography) is an avid observer and photographer who has chronicled the evolution of the music scene in Austin, Texas, since 1970. His photos adorn the rooms of The W Hotel Austin, the Keller­-Pfluger Gallery at the Moody Theater, Fry’s Electronics, Demand Media­­ and many other venues and spaces around the city. In 2010, Scott’s Austin City Limits photographs were exhibited for six months at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. He also is a published author, with several books to his name including the recently re-published Austin City Limits--A History in Photographs.

Scott will present a unique glimpse into his time photographing such greats as Willie Nelson, Tom Waits, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and Tina Turner, and talk about the early days of the Armadillo World Headquarters, his time serving as house photographer for the Austin Opera House in the 1970s and his current role as the official photographer of Austin City Limits—a position he has held for the past 36 years.

It's a Sign!

In lieu of future events and current preferences, LewisCarnegie is proud to announce an exciting addition to our family: a new sign. We upped our branding and feel as though the entire month has been productive just based off of that one simple action (..it only took us two years to get it). Not to outdo ourselves, we also upped our social media abilities and made a Vine video about it. Vine is an app that lets you create a 6-second video with more than one clip. This means you can easily piecemeal cuts of video together to create one seamless experience. The creative ideas are endless.

Love Smells a Munky. Austin Bat Cave's Vol. 5 "Young Love"

Kids in Texas have something to say: they like writing. Funded by donations and fueled by volunteers, Austin Bat Cave helps young writers improve their writing skills and, additionally, helps them get published at an early age. Their latest anthology, Volume 5 Young Love, is a collection of poems, stories, songs, and illustrations about love and the range of emotions and experiences associated with love. In case you’ve forgotten your childhood, adults aren’t the only ones who know about heartbreak, unrequited love, and first kisses. Oh, and if you’re wondering what love smells like, look no further.

 

Evident throughout the book, love—and especially young love—is described as both easy and hard, happy and sad, enduring and fleeting. We are fortunate to have been a part of producing this book that keeps us either giggling or sighing, but always learning. For more excellent insights, wisdom, advice, and drawings about love, Volume 5 Young Love has hit the internet shelves at AustinBatCave.org for $15. All proceeds benefit the free and awesome writing programs of Austin Bat Cave.

Just launched! Our first revolution on VERB. For all you in the know - VERB is the latest extension of everyone's favorite Barber and Shiner Bock dispensary, Birds.

Given the name VERB, we knew we couldn't have just a simple still image for the home page. LewisCarnegie worked with video on the homepage: a slow loop of a moving still brought a real depth to the homepage. We're having fun and appreciate the chance to work with everyone on the VERB team.
